What do they in a data analyst job?

I recently got a job with designation junior data analyst … what is the nature of this job? is it a good designation?

As far as I know, their is no good career designation or a bad career designation.

I can’t and neither your company giving you a career designation or title that spells “LOSER”, right?

If that is not possible, then you have nothing to worry about.

But seriously, no career designation can magically make you succeed … in other words, your success or failure in any career depends on how much effort you put into it and not in the title!

A data analyst – analyzes data. That is you try to turn data into information. All measurements tell a story. It’s sort of like an archaeologist telling a story about a civilization from what he finds in the artifacts.

You’ll have to learn how to mine information either from databases and other electronic sources as well as surveys. You’ll need a sound base in mathematics to fit curves to measure trends and make projections and forecasts.

You’ll need a background in statistics to determine if a data point is where it is because of random effects of the system, or because something unusual happened. How you fix the problem depends on the answer.

You will need to learn a host of tools like Pareto analysis (separating the critical few from the trivial many) and regression analysis.

You have to like to “crunch numbers” and make them tell a story.
